Sanjay Dutt will now produce and act in Qurbani remake, with Fardeen playing his father, Feroz Khan’s role. Dutt will step into Amjad
Khan’s role
The remake of Qurbani, the biggest hit of the 1980s, has just changed hands. Feroz Khan’s blockbuster, Qurbani, was earlier supposed to be remade by Sanjay Gupta with Fardeen Khan and Saif Ali Khan as the protagonists, but now, his friend-turned-foe Sanjay Dutt has managed to acquire the rights of the project.
Sanjay Dutt Productions will now produce the new-age version of Qurbani. Fardeen Khan will play his father Feroz Khan’s role. Interestingly, Sanjay Dutt himself has chosen not to step into Vinod Khanna’s role, but that of the gum-chewing cop’s role, played by Amjad Khan as he finds it more challenging and stylish. He is yet to zero in on a director, but Apoorva Lakhia, Soham Shah and Sanjay Gadhvi - his favorites, we hear, are top contenders.
The remake was almost pronounced dead when Feroz Khan passed away recently, but is now revived. Feroz was enthused about the remake but fell seriously ill, and after his death, a shattered Fardeen had to rush to Goa for the All The Best shoot with Sanjay Dutt. Reveals a source, “That was when Dutt and Fardeen bonded and the matter of Qurbani remake cropped up. And since Dutt wanted nothing more than rescuing the project from Sanjay Gupta, he happily agreed to produce the remake.”
And who will play the sexy Zeenat Aman’s role in the remake? Well, Bipasha Basu, who is also shooting with Sanjay and Fardeen in Goa, is the hottest contender

New York was completely new to me
'New York was completely new to me'
Katrina Kaif goes down a different path in her forthcoming film, New York. The actress sheds the sexy look we've seen in films like Singh Is Kinng, Partner, Welcome and Race, and opts for a 'real, girl-next-door' look.
Co-starring John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Irrfan Khan, Kabir Khan's New York is set against the tragic 9/11 backdrop.
Katrina spoke to Nithya Ramani about how she's so much like her character, Maya, and why she loved falling in love in the film.
What is New York about?
New York starts out like a fun, high energy film set in college -- [where you spend] the best days of your life, not caring about the outside world, big dreams and hopes. All this comes to an abrupt end, forcing these people to take up more responsibility, grow up faster and become more matured.
It is a roller coaster journey of these characters. And it's been a very endearing journey for me, right from the start -- clearing the script, shooting the film, promoting it, dubbing it... I have learnt a lot during this process.
I thought it was a genre I would never relate to. But when it was done, I didn't want to leave. I enjoyed being my character, Maya, so much. It opened up a whole new world to me.
The format of the film is very fresh. I think it can appeal to a large audience.
Your character is very deglamorous compared to the roles you have played before.
I wouldn't call it de-glamed. That sounds like applying mud on your face and then performing, trying to look simple. Maya is real. She is the girl next door. She is not a headstrong woman. She's very casual, simple and carefree. The kind of girl everybody knows.
For me, the 'real' touch to Maya's character was the most special thing about the film. She is more like me than any other character I have played.
Life takes her on a journey and she becomes a woman, falls in love. I enjoyed that part very much as I could relate to that process in so many ways.

Kat is the sexiest: Neil
and Sallu didn’t
take too kindly to it.
But then, of course, the kissa was forgotten and Sallu and Neil are bhai-bhai again. And now, though Kat remains mum about her Johnny co-star, she quite refers to Neil as ‘cutest of the lot’. When we bumped into the Neil recently, and he told us, “I think Katrina is the cutest, too. The most important thing in life is to be a nice human being, which she is. She is the prettiest and sexiest woman today, but at the same time she is so down-to-earth. She’s a great friend.”

KJo terrified after SRK backlash
After the backlash to Shah Rukh Khan’s statements on Prophet Mohammad, a terrified Karan Johar intensifies research for My Name
is Khan
Filmmakers have to be careful when making films on subjects that might hurt people’s sentiments. And more so, if the filmmaker is Karan Johar, making a film on terrorism with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. Given the flurry over the actor’s recent comments on Prophet Mohammad, Karan has gone back to his research books, lest his film, My Name is Khan causes any controversy.
Karan knows he’s walking on glass here with his film and is taking every precaution to see that he doesn’t cross the line. In fact, all filmmakers are putting in extra effort to make sure that they maintain religious and cultural decorum. From Rahul Dholakia, who is making Lamha on Kashmir and the issue of identity in the valley, to Kabir Khan, whose New York is about an NRI Muslim’s confinement in the US for suspected terrorism, they’re all praying that their sensitive films be taken in the right light. They’re hoping that the intolerant sections of the society do not raise an outcry for apparent slights to their religion and beliefs.
Following the unforeseen volatile reaction to Shah Rukh’s statements, Karan is re-checking the facts that form the basis of his research on the film. Reveals a source, “My Name is Khan is a new territory for Karan. He has never done such a subject before. Though Karan insists it’s humane not a political subject, the fact is My Name is Khan is about Islamic isolation and about one individual Muslim’s fight for his dignity in an increasingly hostile world. The last thing Karan wants is fundamentalist groups questioning him about the film.”
There are already murmurs of protest against the film and it can be recalled that while shooting in the US, the unit was denied permission to shoot in a local mosque and a few Muslim members of the unit were simply denied visas to go to US for the shoot.
Our source adds, “Karan is only more adamant now and won’t have his film stopped by protestors. My name is Khan and Qurbaan, his films on sensitive subjects continue to have Muslims Shah Rukh and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles.”

Katrina and John keeping a safe distance
Wary of sparking the rumours again,Katrina Kaif and John Abraham are keeping a safe distance while promoting their film New Yorktogether.
At the press conference held to promote the film a few days back, it was a strange sight to see Irrfan Khan and rubbing their shoulders with Katrina, while John, who’s the film’s leading man, stuck mostly around directo Kabir Khan .
Only once or twice was there an actual verbal exchange between John and Kat at the event.
According to a source, it’s not that a cold war is brewing between the two stars. They are behaving cautiously because they don’t want to spark the rumours of their romance again.
A few weeks back, tinsel town was blitzed by the gossip of a possible romance brewing between the two after it was found that Kat had exchanged many SMSes with John during the filming of ‘New York’.
Today, looking back, she thinks the long chats and exchange of messages with John was a mistake.
“It was a mistake and sometimes mistakes can happen. But this particular issue was blown out of proportion. It was like this Chinese whisper, which went on and on,” Katrina is quoted as saying in a media report.
Anyway, Kat has already admitted that John never became the kind of friend she would have wanted to keep in touch with after the shooting was over.
‘New York’ is set to release on June 26. John, Kat and the other stars will continue to promote the film until its release. Watch out for their chemistry (of the lack of it) at the promotional events till then.
